I have found that when we set aside time to take a “getaway”, so many wonderful things happen.
Things we didn’t really expect.
We relax – when we relax we become the people we really want to be. Every day cares become smaller and we are able to experience real rest. Although this usually may take a few days to happen since we are not used to a slower paceJ Rest is important to our minds and bodies, both physically and spiritually.
We refocus – things become much clearer when we are away from our everyday circumstances and situations that may be causing us worry or stress. We get to see these things through a different “lens” and are able to return with fresh insights and solutions.
We recharge – when we wake up to new places and activities, we are excited to experience new things. We learn about different places and have the opportunity to gain knowledge on the local people and customs. Suddenly our world becomes larger and all we can think about is where we want to go next.
But the most important thing that happens is we reconnect with loved ones. The special people in our life that we wish we could spend more time with during the everyday activities of our hectic life.
All of a sudden we have 24 hours each day to “hang out” with them. We remember why we love them so much and how great it is to just “be” with them for unlimited amounts of time each day.
We enjoy experiencing these new sights, sounds and tastes through their eyes, and that makes everything that much better.
As we come to the end of our vacation, we realize that we are taking home much more than a tan. We are taking home wonderful memories. Memories that will help keep us warm during the cold winter, long work days and crazy schedules of our ordinary lives. We are taking home memories that will last for a very long time, even longer than we will– they will last forever.
And that is very necessary!
